TL:DR - update sharing some resources to introduce new player and get them started in the game.
Hey everyone,
Hope you all had a great weekend. Here in Canada it was the Victoria Day weekend - so I had some extra time to spend with my much neglected gaming consoles. Speaking of gaming, now that we've built up a great community I wanted to share some resources that I found helpful when introducing friends to RPGs. I'm calling this update the Game Makers Digest.
In pop culture people just seem to know how to play RPGs, but anyone who plays knows how hard it can be to build players in from the ground up. These resources are all about getting players into the game, whether they are new or want to get more involved in the experience.
If you have any cool tips feel free to share in the comments - it is always great to hear from the community about things that helped them as GMs or players. I should mention I'm not affiliated with any of the resources linked below, I just think they are great.
Video/Podcasts
Playing D&D with Izzy (3.5 year old) - (Video) Father playing with his young daughter, great intro and makes playing seem less intimidating
The Dungeon Cast - (Podcast) The first episode is linked and provides an overview of D&D. They have specific episodes that break down races, classes, and monsters - ever wish you had an audio book of the Monster Manual with detailed info? Now you do
Starter Kit - (Video) Created by Geek and Sundry, the first half of the video is a quick session 0/character creation, and then a really good example of gameplay (timestamp 28:55)
Handbooker Helper - (Video) The Critical Role team provide brief explanations of how things work in the game
Dungeon Dudes - (Video) Short videos that cover different topics with examples and scenarios for each
Comics and Maps
James Gilfford - Has a bunch of comics that review D&D basics
Battle Maps - Linked to a subreddit (how I came across some great artists like Eightfold and Dynamic Dungeons)

Update 5 - More Cards!

We've unlocked 3 more cards!
Three new cards from the Clothing and Jewellery category are being added to all decks, which brings the total number of items up to 58 (that's a 10% increase in the size of the deck)!
Vote for New Items
These new items are going to be created by our backer community, below are links where you can submit and vote for your favourite ideas. We got a great response to the call-out for Weapons and Armour which you can check out in the poll now! Our next stretch goal unlocks more Utility and Consumable items!
At the end of the month I will choose from the top suggested items and reach out to the backers who submitted ideas so we can work together to incorporate them into the deck.

By popular demand an Add-On has been created for digital GM tools. If you have backed at or above the Elf tier you will automatically receive both digital and physical copies of the GM tools as part of your rewards.

We just unlocked some more cards, and are now over 200 backers! Three new cards from the Utility and Consumables category will be added to the deck. Here is a poll where you can submit your ideas for what you want these items to be, or vote for your favorites. Hey everyone,
Exciting news, we just unlocked a stretch goal, which means 3 new cards from the armour/weapons category will be added to the deck! Here is a survey link where you can submit ideas for what these could be. After we have gathered a few I'll share a poll so that you can vote for your favourite to make it into the final deck.
